Acrobatic Rock 'n ' Roll began in earnest in Europe during the early 1980's. It was headed by Wolfgang Steuer, who became the driving force to where this Dance Sport is today.
The Europeans took American music, from the 1940's, 50's, and even later, that had the heart and soul of Rock n Roll in it, and incorporated the music into a new dance form that is just now being formally introduced in America. Acrobatic Rock 'n' Roll is being brought to America through the efforts of the United States Rock 'n' Roll Dance Federation (USRRDF).
Acrobatic Rock 'n' Roll Dance Sport is exciting, wowing audiences all over the world, on just about every continent. The spectacular aerials, and routines, are executed with precision, safety, and with guidelines provided by an association of National Federations from around the world.
Imagine watching a Dance Sport that the partner flies upwards of 15 plus feet in the air, does acrobatic aerials like; layouts, spins, dives, or is vaulted by a partner high in the air, performing various rotations, and then returning downward only to be caught by a trusted partner, all without missing a beat.
This is mainly done to American music that we grew up dancing to, and still do.
This new Dance Sport is expected to change the American dance scene, bringing it to a level of performance worthy of the Olympics Games.
The USRRDF is the only organization sanctioned and recognized by world bodies of Dance Sport like IDSF, IOC, USOC, WRRC, USA DanceSport, etc., to compete on an International level.
The USRRDF currently has athletes in training from Cheer leading, gymnastics, dance, etc. This Dance Sport requires trainers, teachers, choreographers, etc., to develop the talent to perform at Acrobatic Rock 'n' Roll events.
The acro program is not for all people. It requires long, and hard training schedules with professional staff, a personal dedication and commitment to achieve, a desire to represent America in International competitions including: USRRDF sanctioned events, WRRC world events, World Games, future Olympic Games, etc. The path may be difficult and hard, but the pot of gold at the end of trail is well worth the effort.
All the various disciplines in the USRRDF have different age, and performance levels. Check out the USRRDF application page, and see if you qualify to be in the Classic or Main Masters level when you start your USRRDF adventure.
Cheerleading (including Coed), gymnastic training, etc., are especially encouraged to check out this new and competitive sport. Receive regular information, notification of scheduled events, and learn more about this exciting dance venue by joining the USRRDF, and be kept informed as to your involvement, as a participant or observer.
